| Regional Organizations Form Alliance |
Lake Charles, LA - Three regional economic development organizations have combined resources under a new umbrella coalition to strengthen the business recruiting and retention efforts for Allen, Beauregard, Calcasieu, Cameron, and Jeff Davis parishes. The boards of The Chamber SWLA, The Chamber Foundation SWLA, and the Southwest Louisiana Partnership for Economic Development have approved the formation of the Southwest Louisiana Economic Development Alliance. The “Alliance” will combine the staff and resources of the three groups at the Willis Noland Resource Center at 120 West Pujo Street in Lake Charles which is the current location of the Chamber and Foundation. | Congress passes "Go Zone" extension |
Lake Charles, LA - The legislative package the House passed along with the Domenici-Landrieu plan would extend tax breaks benefiting Louisianians. Most important among these is the Gulf Opportunity (GO) Zone tax incentive. The GO Zone incentive passed in 2005 has allowed hundreds of businesses to invest in areas impacted by Hurricanes Katrina and Rita and to take a 50 percent tax reduction for new facilities or equipment, jumpstarting recovery by giving businesses an incentive to quickly invest. Current law requires that businesses put new facilities or equipment in place by the end of 2008, but the package will extend the benefit until 2010. [more]
